Finding Our Bird’s Nest

February 21, 2011

We still had one more baby related stop after registering at two different places on Saturday. Then we could escape from the land of pastel and the guilt of our crazed scanning.

We just needed to brave one more store.

My very sweet dad gave us a Groupon-ish type certificate to USA Baby that he’d gotten from someone at work. We’d never been to this place, but decided the coupon was motivation enough to at least check out the selection even after combing through two mega stores worth of baby stuff. We were on the hunt for a glider, the only missing piece of furniture for our baby’s room.

After we arrived, it was clear that a USA Baby glider was not in our future. The cheapest option they had was about 400 bucks and we just couldn’t justify spending that much on what is nothing more than a glorified rocking chair.

But we walked around anyway. And thank the Lord above we did.

Cuz we found this:

It’s our bedding!!! It’s the Bananafish Love Bird set that we’ve been eyeing since we’d heard that Baby Spreer might be a girl.

After combing site after site online, this was the only bedding Aaron and I had agreed on and had already started planning our nursery around it. Neither of us had seen it in person as no store in the area seemed to have it, but we still held out hope that it was somewhere. The two places where I found it online were out of stock at the moment and we just couldn’t bring ourselves to cave to the usual flowers and butterfly motif of every other girl nursery theme.

I was so excited to finally find it. Aaron was excited that I was so excited as baby bedding doesn’t seem to have quite the same effect on him. But whatever.

We cornered a sales person and asked where we could find the bedding on the shelves.

She couldn’t find it. They only had one set left in the entire store and it was the one on display.

So I did what any other baby-crazed six month pregnant soon-to-be-mother would do: I had her yank it off the crib and box it up. Heck, I was going to wash whatever I brought home anyway, so what’s the big deal? I had finally found my baby’s bedding and I wasn’t leaving without it.

Well, it’s a damn good thing I got it too.

That bedding was $180 online. With the store price, their President’s Day discount, and the coupon from my dad, we only paid $80 for the whole set. We saved a friggin’ hundred dollars. I was so excited that I did a happy dance for about 30 minutes.

It even gets better! Sunday morning, I was searching online to find the super cute hamper and mobile to match the bedding. It turns out that this set is in the process of being discontinued. It’s even still out of stock at the two stores I checked. The hamper is already unavailable anywhere and the mobile is fading fast.

Thank goodness for my father and his coupon! We never would have gotten our baby’s room together in time! I would have been bawling my eyes out at eight months pregnant in a bare nursery. He totally saved the day and I didn’t even know it needed saving.

Seriously, this makes me so much more excited than that margarita I’ve been dreaming about.

Dad knew what a groupon was? Yea, Dad! That alone is impressive! Love the bedding, btw. And what a great deal! Also, I had to giggle….Aidan’s bedding was clearance at PBK and I spent 2 months duking it out on ebay to get a rug and crib sheet.

I have a feeling a fight is coming to get us the mobile. I may need your expertise at some point. :)

I think we are going to attempt to have them share a room….ahh! We won’t move Emma in there until she is sleeping all night. We have a 3 bedroom so there’s our room, Graci’s room and a guest bedroom. My family comes up to visit about every other month (if not once a month!). So we really can’t afford to not have a guest bedroom. If we wanted to make the guest bedroom into Emma’s room we would have to finish the basement so there is room for visitors. I’m just not ready to tackle that project!! So for now the plan is to share….so pray for us! lol
